Do you find that you spend more of your time crafting and presenting an image of the “ideal you” than on unraveling the mess that exists just below the surface?
Me too. I often find myself more focused on looking like I have it all together than sitting down, dumping my mess out in front of whomever is around, and asking God to have mercy on me and help me work through it. I shy away from letting even my friends see the honest mess that I really am.
And the most unnatural reaction to that fear of honesty is to share our messes publicly. Yes, it’s scary. I’m terrified every time I hit the “publish” or “comment” button. But the beauty of this sort of honesty is that we are consistently reminded that we are not alone. We are able to support one another and find sweet relief when we are not so focused on bottling up our messes that we miss life as we’re supposed to be living it.
So, stay a while. Pull a few pieces of your mess out and share them if you feel like it. Dump your mess out on the floor with me, and we can work through our messes together.
More about me:
My name is Carla. I hail from rural Kentucky and work as a student support professional for distance learners. I moonlight as a blogger, focusing on inviting people to slow down, think about their messes, and turn to God to sort them out.
I have a wonderful husband (named Husband-Man) and a Toyota Corolla called Buzz Lightyear. I am an introvert, crafter, and small adventure-seeker. I lost my only daughter on August 7th, 2015 when she was born still at 27 weeks. I delivered our son in Feb 2017, by God’s grace and provision.
I would love to learn more about you and get to connect with you!
I love your messy heart! Thanks for being open 🙂

Carla, I was 30 weeks with Matthew. We went for an ultra sound, they found a severe heart defect. I carried him for 4 day and on the fifth day there was no movement. I delivered the next day. That was 24 years ago this past June. With God’s help things do get better.
Much Love
Gail

Thank you, Gail. It is so encouraging to hear from women who have lived through this and still praise God. It is such a good reminder that God is still good now, and will continue to be good.
