Food

My 20 year old self imagined that my 25 year old self would spend her nights having intellectual conversations around a dinner table in another country after a long day of work. As I write this, there is laundry in the washer, laundry in the drier, rice, red beans and sausage, and chicken on the stove as well as a cast iron skillet that I’m seasoning. And, even though my house smells like meat and rice mixed with hot oil, I have a candle burning called “Pumpkin Apple” because it’s cold and feels like Fall.

FoodI did not imagine that I would spend my nights waiting for dinner for the week to cook. I didn’t know that I would still be in the town I went to college three years after graduating.

And I’m so happy that I’m waiting for all of this food to cook. Because this is how I show love to Husband-Man. He feels loved when his belly is full and his clothes are clean. So, today, I’m happy to wait. Even if the house smells funny.

What do you not mind waiting for that you didn’t expect?

This post is part of the 31 Days Writing Challenge, in which a group of writers post a piece every day for the month of October.
